Henry has been working for Optimizely for over a year now. He began working in the London office and recently relocated to European HQ in Amsterdam. He decided that he much preferred a daily commute by bike rather than tube! We sat down with him and asked him some quick fire questions so we could find out more about life at Optimizely!
What is your role at Optimizely?
I’m an SDR for the Enterprise segment in the UK&I. What that means is that it’s my job to research and initiate conversations with key stakeholders at businesses that are part of our target verticals, helping to build a business case around Optimizely’s solution. I’m also the first point of contact for these companies for any questions they may have when looking into us. I work in partnership with Account Executives in this territory to source sales opportunities for them to turn into new business.
What does a typical day look like for you at Optimizely?
The first thing I do is plan out my day, making sure I’m keeping track of my priorities throughout the week and month. I like to also check up on what happened in the night while the US was working. Were there any conversations from our global team that I need to get up to speed with? Any major announcements? Did any important deals close?
Next, I’ll go through my inbox and Salesforce dashboard, checking for responses from prospects that I’ve been reaching out to as well as potential leads and contacts that have been surfaced by our marketing team.
The rest of the day is quite varied. Some days I’ll have a lot of meetings scheduled with prospects, so the time will be spent preparing, running, and then setting next steps. During these customer meetings, I’m trying to learn about projects the customer is working on that we can support them using digital experimentation, as well as sharing insights on how we have helped similar businesses.
Other days I’ll have fewer client meetings so the focus will be on researching target accounts and finding new contacts to engage with, making calls, and internal meetings with my account executives and fellow SDRs.
Everyone takes lunch very seriously so at 12pm we all eat lunch together which is brought in by caterers. Usually after lunch, some people will go outside for a coffee, or play ping pong (yes, the tech company stereotypes are sometimes true).
What are you working on right now?
Currently I’m focused on expanding our conversations with some of the UK’s leading banks. We’ve had some positive discussions and findings so far, but these are huge organisations, so we need to make sure we’re involved in multiple projects to increase our chances of securing their business. A key advantage we have in approaching these companies is that our solution and our compliance with security policies enables their teams to experiment within their secure digital channels where their customers interact with their accounts, meaning we can have tremendous impact.
