Quiz: What kind of AI relationship are you in?

4 min Lesezeit

Not all AI relationships are created equal. Some are exciting at first but fizzle fast. Some leave you doing all the emotional (and operational) labor. And some—if you’re lucky—actually get you, support you, and help you grow.

As marketers, we know that working with AI can feel a lot like dating: the trial and error, mixed signals, and occasional situationship that doesn't go as well as you'd hoped.

Take the quiz to find out what kind of AI relationship you're in—and whether it's time to upgrade to something a little more...long-term.

Check out Red flags, ghosting, and trust issues: A marketer's guide to dating AI

  1. When your AI gives you content, how does that make you feel?

    a) Like a vague compliment from a match that clearly did not read my profile
    b) Like, sure it looks pretty but does it actually work?
    c) Like finally, someone actually listened to me—it's smart, strategic, and tailored to me
  2. Your AI just generated something... now what?

    a) Uh, I guess I'll just throw it into the void and hope for the best?
    b) Spend 3 hours tweaking it until it sounds human
    c) Plug it straight into a content creation workflow that optimizes, publishes and tests it
  3. How does your AI take on feedback?

    a) It forgets everything I said by the next day
    b) It smiles, nods, says "got it", but keeps making the same mistakes
    c) It learns from me and adapts (healthy communication FTW)
Answered A or B? Sounds like you need to work on your AI prompts or level up with agents and AI instructions. Or your boundaries.
  4. Your AI's idea of 'collaboration' and 'compromise' is:

    a) Doing everything for me, without asking #clingy
    b) Interrupting my process with random suggestions
    c) Supporting me at every stage, from ideation through to experimentation and optimization
  5. Does your AI understand you, your brand, and your brand voice?

    a) Absolutely not, I have to redo everything (and I say "that must be your other girlfriend")
    b) Sometimes... if I whisper it sweetly in just the right prompt
    c) Yes, it knows our tone better than most new hires (and I know how to use AI for a strong brand voice)
  6. Your AI's biggest red flag is:

    a) Overpromises, underdelivers... a chronic flake
    b) Can't handle complexity and gets overwhelmed when things get real
    c) Honestly? None, I'm suspicious of how good it is
  7. When you ask your AI to support a marketing campaign, it...

    a) Write one blog post and peaces out—big hit-it-and-quit-it energy
    b) Sends me something completely off-brand (just like my grandma every Christmas)
    c) We're talking full commitment; it helps me plan, generate, optimize, and analyze the whole thing
  8. Does your AI like to (digitally) experiment?

    a) Nope, this one likes the comfort zone and tends to repeat the same things
    b) Only if I manually run tests—it's got low initiative
    c) Yep, it actually helps optimize results over time. Adventurous and reliable.
  9. You just got feedback that your content underperformed. Your AI...

    a) Ghosts you 👻
    b) Gaslights or pretends it never happened (classic avoidance)
    c) Takes on the data and helps you test, tweak, and improve #growthmindset
  10. How emotionally available is your AI?

    a) Cold. Robotic. Probably a narcissist.
    b) Tries to connect, but clearly faking it
    c) Empathetic, helpful, and gives me space for my creativity to shine ☀️
  11. On a scale of 1 to "It's complicated", how seamless is your AI experience?

    a) I'm in a polyamorous relationship with AI; I need a second AI to manage the first one
    b) It's kinda like a long distance thing, jumping between tools constantly
    c) Feels like part of my team—totally integrated and zero jealousy

  12. Your marketing talks about your AI tool like it's:

    a) That messy ex you don't bring up in meetings
    b) The one you settled for... because "it's already in the budget"
    c) A reliable relationship that makes the whole team better (wedding invite pending?)

So, where do you stand?

Mostly As: The toxic AI fling 🚩

You’ve been ghosted, breadcrumbed, and maybe even gaslit… by your AI. It overpromises, underdelivers, and leaves you doing all the emotional labor (and the actual work). This isn’t a relationship, it’s a cautionary tale. Time to stop giving second chances and start looking for a partner that actually shows up.

Mostly Bs: The situationship 🍆

Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s “meh,” and most of the time you’re wondering if it’s worth the effort. Your AI has potential, but right now it’s inconsistent, hard to trust, and keeps you stuck in a loop of tweaking, prompting, and settling. It’s not the worst thing in your stack, but deep down you know you deserve better.

Mostly Cs: The dream partnership 💞

Congratulations. You’ve found the AI equivalent of a green-flag partner. It listens, adapts, supports your goals, and makes your whole team better. This isn’t just a fling, it’s a long-term partnership built on trust, collaboration, and mutual growth. Put a ring on it (or at least a budget line item).
