Zhengguo Gu
Zhengguo Gu is a senior data science leader and statistician with a focus on experimentation, causal inference, and statistical methodology. He currently serves as Senior Staff Statistician at Optimizely, where he leads the development of the Stats Engine. His work includes A/B testing, sequential analysis, Bayesian inference, and simulation-based sample size planning. He also collaborates on research with academia, exploring new methods for anytime-valid testing and online experimentation.
Before joining Optimizely, Zhengguo worked on measurement and experimentation in digital marketing at Booking.com, focusing on improving attribution accuracy and evaluating channel performance using principled statistical methods. He led the redesign of the experimentation framework for the Criteo remarketing channel and developed data science solutions—including causal inference techniques and multi-armed bandit models—to inform budget allocation and performance analysis at scale.
Before that, at bol.com, Zhengguo played a central role in advancing experimentation and statistical methods within the organization. He supported product teams in designing and analyzing A/B tests, longitudinal studies, and quasi-experiments, using both frequentist and Bayesian approaches.
Zhengguo holds a PhD in Methods and Statistics in the Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as master’s degrees in applied statistics, marketing research, and economics. He combines deep statistical expertise with practical product impact and is committed to advancing rigorous experimentation in data-driven organizations.
